Reinvention by the definition I hold, happens for me continually. It seems like a life long quest. We decide to reinvent ourselves on the basis that something needs to change in or around us. It is at times the human spirit propelled by another that motivates or brings a new awareness of something that really was there all along. Maybe we or others have suppressed it in us. A dream perhaps that really is just your spirit reminding you where you are to be. An idea that may come from a need to sustain life or just to live it better, to its fullest. Changes, abrupt or thought out have come in simple ways for me. With the goal of just being the best me I can be, or the me I was intended to be.
Working in the beauty industry causes me to reinvent myself on the outside to keep up with the changing trends. In a deeper sense it comes in the form of books, the philosophy of others or the human story that transforms your mind to endless possibilities. I am transformed or "reinvented" when something within takes root and I take a step, however small into the unknown. My divorce propelled me there. The person I settled to be because of my own insecurities and allowing someone to control the way they thought I should be. Awakening to this truth and realizing who I was, my value and worth, it seemed as though I was reinventing myself but really I was finding the true beauty within. My weight had changed as a result of exercise to ease the mental stress and emotions that come with such a life changing event. But internally, spiritually, at the core of who I am, reinvention is a mere discovery of the gifts and talents that were in there all along.
With those steps you take throughout your life to find you, you find a new strength, a new you, someone you were not aware existed. Or did you? Was she nagging you all along till you finally decide it's time to reinvent yourself, but really you were just finding the real you! Maybe it could help not to label life changing events as reinvention, because you are pretty fabulous just the way you were created. Consider the possibility Reinvention is finding new clues to knowing the REAL YOU!
