Creating thevuvclub.com has awakened in me a passion, a new spirit and a discovery of an untapped part of my self.
And I notice, many of my 40-ish year old friends have a desire for some form of re-invention.
Whether they haven't worked in years and want to start, have worked for what feels like forever and want to stop or want to....I don't know....learn to knit...they want to find some new interest or more, a new part of their self.
Is this a good thing? I say, "Yes, rah rah, it is."......but I also notice, re-invention leads to change and change is scary for some.
Not just for the one embracing change but for their Vuvs, their BFF's, the women who bear witness to and share in their lives.
This begs the question.....
Are you a cheerleader or a "wet blanket?"
When a friend tells you they are starting a new venture, quitting a job, starting or ending a relationship or taking time to “find themselves” do you say something encouraging or start spewing the reasons why these are bad ideas (or worse, find your sarcastic self saying, “Hey when you’re out there looking for yourself, let me know if you find me!”)
This question speaks to the kind of friend you are and to your personality in general. Are you supportive? practical? optimistic? negative? a little of each?
Easier than analyzing what you are is asking yourself which personality type do you want to be around?
The “wet blanket” is a pessimist, a person whose low spirits or lack of enthusiasm have a depressing effect on others. The expression, “wet blanket” alludes to smothering a fire with a wet blanket.” Do you surround yourself with people who want to put out your fire?
“I’m starting a new website.”
“”Well, I hope you don’t expect to have thousands of people reading it.”
The cheerleader is optimistic and tends to understand that hopes, dreams and emotions are most important. The cheerleader doesn’t put out your fire, they stoke it.
“I’m starting a new website.”
