Does This Make Her Look Old?

She looks vibrant and exciting!!!

Those are beautiful combinations!

Elizabeth not only looks younger, but also more confident and self-assured. She looks totally in control and on top of the world! Great job!

I love the waist definition! We aren't looking at a size 2, yet her waist is ..... wonderful!

Tim Gunn come SAVE ME TOO! Love you! You are amazing!

It isn't just that she just looks younger. One can look her age but look better at her age. She looks youthful. As the ad says...her inner youthful beauty which would make her FEEL pretty...standy pretty...and walk pretty. Beautiful. She looks so much more sophisticated.

She looks fabulous -- much younger
09.26.2009 Report
She looks much younger, her hair is great
Younger, she looks much younger in the after shots, especially in the pant outfit. Her hairstyle also makes her look younger. Great job!
Amazing transformation, I don't understand why it's not the no. 1 priority, our look. It's how we present ourselves to the world. Check out my blog: http://sixties60style.blogspot.com/

Obviously, the two after looks are the best. She looks current and fashioable. Women have to be careful about looking dowdy and matronly as we age. Being elegant and fashionable in the workplace helps us feel good about ourselves.Checkout my website... everythingdiva.com

CLOTHES DO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE! She looks great. A very pretty woman.
09.14.2009 Report
Elizabeth looks like a differnt person!! At least 15 years younger!
09.12.2009 Report
She looks slimmer and has a lot more style. Is the skirt in "after 2 " a little short?
09.09.2009 Report
The difference is amazing! It is so easy to get stuck in a rut when selecting clothes. The 'after' photos really stimulate my own creativity.
09.08.2009 Report
I love after !
the new outfits look so fresh and youthful with out sacrificing 'profesional' I also could not help but notice the hair and makeup .. very nice !
09.07.2009 Report
Elizabeth looks fabulous after...really pulled together, but comfortable. I'd wear either after outfit to work or out after work for dinner/drinks.
08.31.2009 Report
We think she looks fantstic after. Expecialy when putting her in that pretty coral top.
Moreover, you even have her in comfortable flats in the pants and she looks so much more updated and comfortable! Well done!
08.30.2009 Report
I think Elizabeth's inner beauty was brought out , she looks much younger.
08.21.2009 Report
loved it,especially the skirt and blouse and how it was'nt so matchy, matchy
08.15.2009 Report
After 1 and 2 outfits look worlds better, slimming her down, making her waist look smaller with the longer top and belt and overall achieving a more youthful look. The before outfit looks outdated, makes her look short and very thick thru the middle.
This look is nice, but I am 5'1" and a little round for my height. What can I do to look fashionable at the office? I am 59 and my coworkers are all under 30! I feel like the mom of the office, but I want to fit in more.

The "afters" look great!; Especially the after 2! It makes me want to throw eveything away in my closet and start all over again!
She looks fabulous in both of the after pictures. She was making herself look much older with the "Before" outfit. She looks great!
08.04.2009 Report
Both "afters" look better than the "befores".. but I'm not a huge fan of the metallic sheen on the jacket. It'll be fine as long as the metallic look is in, because it's a subtle version of it, but once the metallic look is out again.. and it will surely be out again soon.. it's going to be just a bit "vegas" for everyday wear.

I especially like "after 2" because you can easily see where the same silhouette can be adapted for a lot of different seasons. replace the sleeveless shirt, with a fine gauge sweater, or the grey skirt with a pair of grey flannel cuffed pants.. or replace the pretty nude shoes with a pair of flat or heeled boots for winter.

This is for all the gals on this forum who say they cannot afford pricy pieces of clothing---I've got one word for you: LOEHMANN'S. If you don't have one in your town, Ross or Marshall's often have really good pieces but LOEHMANN"s is the best. Their BACK ROOM has oodles of good stuff by known designers--You can dress well for less but you have to spend more time shopping---If you are building a wardrobe, visit every other week or so--Also, get to know the sales gals there---They will tell you when the really good stuff is put on the floor.
AND Loehmann's is not paying me for this advertisement...I just love quality clothing and while I usually carry a 'quality' pocketbook, it hasn't always overflowed with the green stuff.....

I am so glad you wrote this article. My friends and I have talked about how hard it is to find the right outfits at this age. It's a real balance to not look to old or to young. I really like your after photos. She still looks professional but younger and more confident (but not to young). Please keep articles like this coming!
07.22.2009 Report
I think she looks great. There is a vivaciousness to her look that wasnt there before. How much longer do you think the wide belt worn around the waistline is going to stay fashioable? I love the look but I know this trend has been around for a little while now so Im just wondering how much longer you ladies think this is going to last?
07.22.2009 Report
love the afters! She looks great, the 'before' was a frumpy look that makes her look older
07.19.2009 Report
I love her new look. I like the idea of moving away from the standard suit and especially love 'after 2' - the color is wonderful on Elizabeth. The color is wonderful on her - it lightens up her face and gives her a natural color and the look makes her look both 10 pounds lighter and 10 years younger. I found this article VERY useful and take it's lessons with me when I'm shopping now.
07.15.2009 Report
I'm small, too--5'2-1/2" and around 100 lbs. I wear a petite size 2 or 4 and find that many stores have seriously reduced their adult petite departments. Unless we can afford expensive clothing or tailoring (I can't!), it's difficult to find fashionable clothing that isn't made for 20-30 year olds. I like Elizabeth's updated look #1 (#2 not so much), but I bet those clothes aren't available in petite sizes at reasonable prices.
07.13.2009 Report
I think you have definitly capture Elizabeth's inner youthfulness. She looks great. I decded to comment because many of the comments mentioned the cost of the clothing and assesories you used in the article, I feel these ladies have missed the point. You can get the same looks on any budget. You don't have to spend a fortune to look great. Yes the same looks canbe put together using items found at Penney's,Kohls, or targets. It's not how much you spend on the garment that makes you look great it the attitude you have when your wearing it.
07.12.2009 Report
I can't believe it's the same person! Wow, Elizabeth, you look great!
07.12.2009 Report
Please add as a regular feature--this is useful. And agree with those who suggest finding pieces at a variety of price points. After all, shopping is much less difficult when one has a limitless budget--it's the challenge of looking good on a budget that most of us face.
The after pictures look great. But as has been mentioned the cost of these outfits is prohibative. I am able to add a piece or two every couple months. And not pieces that cost $100's. I'm doing good to but JC Penney or Kohl's. They have great clothes. I'm sure I could come up with similar outfits from those two stores. You know what makes a big difference with these outfits is with the skirt in the "after 2" photo she is wearing heels that are a bit higher than those ugly shoes in the before picture. The belt defines her waist in both afters. There is just nothing redeemable with the before picture. But I wish you would take a nice inexpensive core piece and show different ways to wear that piece with other interchanable pieces all under $30-40 a piece.
07.04.2009 Report
Like so many other readers I have to comment that while I frequently like the fashions showcased, I can't afford them. My budget will never include $600 shoes or bags. I've never owned a $200 skirt. Show me/us things that normal middle class 40/50/60 somethings can afford, wear and look good in.
Her new look epitomizes what many of us are seeking: fresh, current, polished and confident. Yes, the wardrobe change is dramatic. But so are the makeup and hairstyle makeovers--no more bright, red, aging lips; no more frumpy hair. I echo the request: please make this a regular feature.
06.27.2009 Report
More like this, please. And, more talk about updating looks for various sizes and shapes... we're all in this together. :)
06.25.2009 Report
I too would like to see this as a regular feature! Really enjoyed it and found it extremely helpful.
06.25.2009 Report
Remember Mom Jeans? The "before" looks like a Mom Suit. Love the update; she looks 10 years younger.
06.24.2009 Report
Great job! She looks almost totally different, and definately younger!

My problem with being "over 40" is trying to find stylish clothes that are in small sizes. I'm 5'6" and a size 2, and it is incredibly difficult to find age approriate clothing in smaller sizes. I end up shopping in the juniors department, which is NOT a good thing.
06.20.2009 Report
This was a great article. This would be a great regular feature.

I do agree with some of the comments regarding the price tag of the clothes. More magazine seems to think all women over the age of 40 make over $100k. That is not true. Also some of us choose not to spend the bulk of our $ on clothes. There must be some middle ground between Old Navy/Kohls and designer clothes. I wish More would feature more options from this middle ground.

I do wear hose to work in the summer time, not to cover up "leg defects", but because the air conditioning in the office is too high and hose are warmer than bare legs. (On the weekends I wear skiits without hose).

06.19.2009 Report
I have to agree with the first comment - she doesn't look old, just frumpy. I would like to add that the real trick to updating her appearance would be to use at least one item that she already owns in each of the "after" photos. I don't know anyone who can just decide to by a whole new wardrobe - even at Old Navy prices - every season. Most of us have to choose one or two pieces per month to update. And I won't talk about the clothes I recycled just as the became fashionable again....

I think both of the new styles make her look more put together and up to date. The youthfullness comes easily because she is "in style". I agree with another writer that it would be nice to know what type of outfits fit certain body types. I'm slim, but I'm becoming more of an apple shape as I get older - I usually don't see outfits for my body type, and it's frustrating. Can More help me out? Thank you, Debbie
06.12.2009 Report
I totally love the outfit, made her seem very youthful...There are certain shades of gray that makes one looks so matronly..
06.10.2009 Report
Updates are nice, she does look much better. However, I have to agree 100% that MOST women don't have the shapes the women do on this sites discussions/ads/reviews, etc. Come on society-wake up! By the way, I'm a normal size 8-9-10. With lumps and bumps.
06.04.2009 Report
I love the afters. Its like she shed a couple of years just by changing her style.
06.02.2009 Report
the updates are really great...she looks much more youthful..however, there are some of us large busted women (with average bottoms of 6-8) who are unable to wear a wide belt? keep up the great work.....

"after 2" The bright color and belt brought out youthful color and freshness, more than the others.
Sometimes, all we need is to see ourselves through someone else's eyes! Yes, the after 1 & 2 of Elizabeth’s inner youthful beauty are mirrored much better in the new after outfits. Since clothing is still part of our daily life (unless visiting a nudist camp ;) ...why not wear clothing to look your best...instead of letting the clothing ...wear you!
05.23.2009 Report
I like both of the afters. And yes, the "before" is frumpy.
05.18.2009 Report
I love that you can revamp a frumpy style and make us look hipper and more youthful. My peeve is that all the fashion consultants and gurus seem to think that we can afford the outrageous prices of these magical "core pieces" Am I to understand that looking good is left only to the wealthy? I don't think I am in a low-income situation. We are higher middle-class, but I don't know anyone in my realm of friends/associates who have $600 for a purse or $500 for a blazer or $600 for a pair of shoes even if they are Moschino leather pumps or Manolo Blaniks... I can not believe that we have to spend that kind of money to look well-dressed. Please consider all your readers, not just the well off ones...
I have some problems with this. First of all, the title, "Does This Make Her Look Old" tells me that you're buying into the cultural perception that old=bad. Does This Make Her Look Frumpy would have been a better title. About the negative reaction to nude pantyhose - hose of some sort should be worn with a short skirt, and dark, opaque panty hose would not look right in the summertime. Most of us don't have perfect legs, and leg makeup doesn't cover everything. To think otherwise is to be in denial. If you have perfect, tan, firm legs, fine. But that's not most of us. I also thought the belt in #2 looks too big & clunky with that outfit, it's at odds with her purse. I have Tim Ginn's book & liked it, but I don't think this is his best work.
Looks great!
05.15.2009 Report
Great work as the belting in of both tops creates a very flattering shape for Elizabeth... much more youthful
05.15.2009 Report
Perfect! she looks years younger and much more confident and beautiful.
05.15.2009 Report
I love #1. Elizabeth obviously likes jackets, and the new one is not only cool looking, it's flattering to her coloring. Personally, I'd love to have it. And the big handbag satisfies eliz's obvious need for a major schlep bag. #2 looks terrific too, but in terms of reality testing: not everyone this age is comfortable going sleeveless.

she looks amazing! Would love to see more of these.
