Sparkles are back, big time! We saw this look in Europe over the summer: At 5 o’clock sharp, the women brought out the shimmer. So we are not at all surprised that this fall, the trend is moving Stateside. However, if you’re cringing at the thought of looking like an over-accessorized Miami tourist, or if you fear sparkles will age you, relax. When it comes to putting glimmer in your wardrobe, have fun, take baby steps and give it a try. Here are a few tips on how to wear this latest fashion trend:
Just a dab will do ya. Unless you are a Vegas showgirl or a pre-teen, it’s all about moderation: Pick one glittery accessory or piece of clothing to wear at a time, and anchor the rest of your outfit with the unadorned.
Careful where you shine. Do NOT add sparkle to your hips or pants pockets, as this only draws attention to what is often the widest part of a woman's body. For a more flattering look on the bottom, an all-over metallic skirt is a sleeker choice.
Don’t take your sparkle seriously. This fall, “bling” is showing up on casual clothes. Look for T-shirts with beading and sequins, either around the neckline (a great face-framer) or scattered randomly. Pair them with straight-leg jeans and platform heels.
Try metallic accessories. Feeling squeamish about all this shine? Start slowly by adding eye-catching shine with gold, silver or bronze shoes, belts, scarves and bags.
Transition into evening. For a fresh evening look, try a gorgeous silk jacket with the collar lightly studded with rhinestones, or add an oversized jewel-encrusted brooch (either real or faux) to a shoulder of your sweater.
