I Ditched the Hair Dye

Hello, my name is Rose, and I've never been happier with my new hairdo!

Oh my goodness, what a difference a dye makes! Seriously, this was truly a no-brainer, and I am sorry it took me so long to figure it out. As my daughter said when she saw me, "What is there not to love about it?" A simple, short, to-the-point statement, but oh-so-true.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways: Now when I work out, I don't have to worry about the hair dye coming off on the gym sweat towel. Now I don't have to worry about the gray showing around my temples and me trying to hide it.  No more fuss, expense or time lost at the salon.  New eye makeup, fun new earrings and the most rewarding of all... I've never felt more comfortable and confident. It tells people, this is who I am and I love it!

So, if you are considering ditching the dye, go for it, ladies--and while you are at it, get a new hairdo. I did. By the way, men love it and I get compliments from young and not so young men all the time. My husband loves it. A total stranger waited for me to walk up to the grocery store from the parking lot just to tell me how stunning my hair looked. That never happened to me during the 19 years I dyed my hair! Come on ladies and get on board, you will love the ride.

I am going au natural at 46. I'm tired of coloring my hair, it's just not fun anymore. I have been doing it since I was in my 20s just because I didn't like my natural color. My natural color is very dark and I always went pretty light, so there was a definite "line" between the old and new colors. To go au natural, I picked a color that was very close to my natural color and will just be letting it grow and hopefully I selected carefully enough that the "line" will be mostly invisible.

Personally for me, I'm not wanting to look younger. More like being comfortable and confident with myself at age 60 in one month. I pay more attention to my makeup, jewelry and clothes now than I did before. My only regret is the photo I posted. I rushed to get this posted. oh well. If more.com allows I certainly would not mind posting a better photo of me. If not, you'll just have to take my word for it.lol....
Sorry, gals, you are only fooling yourselves if you think going grey makes you look younger, more vital, exciting...although I'm not saying that pretty, silvery hair can't look attractive, it just is NOT going to make you look younger. But I also feel that women should do whatever they want with their hair...you may get compliments, but you won't look younger...some women just don't care about looking their best, just go with what's easier, and that's fine too. Dyes these days aren't dangerous from what I've read.

To all the beautiful ladies who have responded positively to my post, thank you. I'm having the time of my life and it sounds like you all are as well. It's about time the salt and pepper look was not only charming and attractive on men !!

White sprouted among the brown on my head at age 19. So, starting with a temporary rinse and progressing to the hard stuff, I dyed off and on for the next 60-some years, mostly “on” during working years because of peer pressure. And let’s face it, girls, there is an age bias in our culture. An example is a school teacher friend who had a stylish (dyed) hairdo when she told her elementary school class she was going to retire. “But you aren’t old enough,” one student said, “Your hair isn’t gray.” I rest my case. Now that my age has caught up with my hair color, I enjoy the dye-free existence. I too get compliments on the white hair, which never happened when it was brown (or auburn or blonde). And to those who see white-headedness as an unwelcome reminder of the changes that come with aging, I urge them to consider the alternative. As for me, I celebrate it all. Hey, I’m still alive!
