Your Inner Warrior and Your Inner Worrier Find Inner Peace

A new way to conquer stress and anxiety.

What is mindfulness? Mindfulness, as defined by Jon Kabat-Zinn in his book, Wherever You Go, There You Are, is “paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally” to things as they are. More and more, the practice of mindfulness has gained acceptance among the mainstream as a credible way to manage numerous concerns, including illness, pain, anxiety, depression and spiritual malaise. It's also a technique that expands awareness and creativity. Sophisticated brain imaging and other research continue to confirm, in tangible ways on a physical level, the effectiveness of meditation. Of course, humans have successfully meditated for health and enlightenment for thousands of years without empirically based studies!

I have always had a keen interest in developing overall consciousness, including kinesthetic, energetic, rhythmic and dynamic awareness. How do you do that?! Dancing, improvisation, drumming and yoga to name a few fun ways. This led me to discover Voice Dialogue, a system for personal growth developed by the Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone based on building an aware ego process.

I have been a practitioner for over 10 years and have co-founded the New York Voice Dialogue Institute. The premise of Voice Dialogue is that our personality consists of an assortment of Sub-Personalities or Selves. This is a natural result of growing up in your household where certain aspects of yourself were rewarded and others were discouraged (and not a reflection of “turning into Sybil” and having multiple personality disorder!) In fact it’s how we operate naturally.
