I'm really surprised to not see Corrections on this list. That's what I do and I'm 49 years old and working at a correctional center (prison). It's not for everyone, but it pays well and the benefits are good. You can just pretty much guarantee job security!

maryAnn, i suggest school---pick up a trade or get a degree or get certification at something you love thru university adult Ed programs...or consider working in day care at a neighborhood center....you definitely qualify....set a long term goal and then take small steps to et there..... .
I agree with MaryAnn. I am 62 and have 20+ yrs clerical experience, no degree and haven't worked for 3 yrs. I would relocate for a job at this point. I have applications up and down the west coast. At this moment waiting to here from a retailer for p/t job. Many women share the same unfortunate circumstances. We need suggestions, advice and most of all a job. Good luck.

ps. i am a RN---have my masters--it' has a HIGH burn out rate unfortunately---tough work that does not often empower--RN's throw up their hands and leave....

i would love to talk to a woman who becomes or is-- a small niche farmer----I have this vision of supplying yummy herbs to local restaurants...i met a farmer-male-who does this for alice waters restaurants in berkeley....he loves his work......
