What is your book club reading?

My book club is reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. It's about a 54-year-old concierge who works at a Paris apartment building. She hides her passion for the arts—and her intelligence—from the building’s elite tenants, one of whom is a 12-year-old girl named Paloma. She, like the concierge, considers herself an outsider—until a new tenant moves in and unites them with each other.

We were reading this too but I couldn't get into it. I felt like it wasn't just the main characters that were pretentious but the author too, and the only way she could get away with showing off her command of language was to put it into 2 characters mouths. Now we're also starting Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. I hear great things and hope it lives up to its reputation.
Say You're One of Them, a book of short fiction pieces by African writer Uwem Akpan, and the novel Silence by Shusako Endo.

MIne is reading THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH by Ken Follett. Really good! I'd resisted reading it in the past --it's 971 pages--but I'm so glad i dug in. Who knew twelfth-century England was so interesting?
