Great Romantic Comedy? It's All Greek To Me.

My Life In Ruins, starring the funny and charming Nia Vardalos.

Of course you all remember Nia as the much put-upon bride-to-be with the very large and overly attentive family, in the comedy hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Well, Nia is finally back on the screen in a vehicle that looks perfect for her in every way. She plays a Greek-American who decides to change her life and relocate to Greece.  She becomes a tourist guide who is clearly in over her head, and very quickly encounters much wackiness, and an eventual surprising love interest along the way.

Yes, it sounds like familiar Romantic Comedy territory….but with a fresh spin, a gorgeous locale and a truly likable heroine.  I'm willing to hedge my bets that adult audiences in the mood for something light and fun, just might venture out for this one.

Hmmm….in all fairness here, I must mention that I would seriously love to travel to Greece. Great food, warm sands, crystal blue waters….and handsome Greeks. Hey, not a bad trip.

To date however, the closest I've come is to enjoy much fellowship and a lot of Ouzo at my good friends' Christos and Dena Poulias' wonderful local Greek restaurant, Mykonos Taverna & Bakery. (Be sure to try Dena's homemade baklava and tell them Kelly sent you.)

So that's why I'm waxing just a little romantic today about worthwhile Rom Coms and the allure of traveling to Greece.

I plan to see My Life In Ruins with the hopes of adding it to my long, yet selective list of Romantic Comedy favorites.

Hey, I may never actually get to Greece, but thanks to Nia Vardalos (a kindred spirit, of that I'm sure), I will very soon be able to enjoy a warm Grecian holiday at a theater near me.

Oh yeah, and then eventually again from the comfort of my couch, with some good ice cream and a big 'ol bag of chips.

Opa!

Yes, I've seen the promos and the hunk! Greece, hunky guy, funny gal = my cup of tea. Summer time is full of action-jackson, blow-up fever full of testosterone. Not for me, thanks. The promotions department is smart. They are using social media, Twitter, in fact to promote the flick. You can follow @NiaVardalos and see videos, clips, chatter, et al. Smart idea. I'll be there in the dark with my "Hot Tamales", candy that is, not greek guys! Julie
