Winners' Circle: 2005 MORE Marathon

MORE Marathon winner Susan Loken, 41, prepares to break the finish line tape. She finished first with an official time of 2:45:35, a MORE Marathon record.

Second-place finisher Janet Robertz, 45, from Shorewood, Minnesota, heads towards the finish line. Robertz finished just three minutes behind Loken, in 2:48.59.

Larisa Michailova, 36, breaks through the tape at the half-marathon finish. Michailova was the individual winner of the half-marathon with a time of 1:16:58. Her half-marathon partner, Zofia Wieciorkowska, 42, finished less than 9 minutes later, at 1:25:39, putting the team in second place with a combined time of 2:42:37.

Veena Reddy, 26, sails toward the end, cheered on by Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon wearing official numbers. Reddy came in second in the half-marathon with a time of 1:17:17. Reddy’s running partner was Carmen Trancoso, 46, the third-place finisher. The women’s combined time of 2:36:24 made them the winning team for the half-marathon event.

Corinna Cortes, 44, the third-place finisher in the full marathon, accepts her award from Wittenberg and Northrop alongside her two young children. Cortes’s final time was 3:07:44.

Susan Loken, a 41-year-old mother of three from Phoenix, as she receives the award for winning the full marathon with a time of 2:45:35. Wittenberg and Northrop stand alongside her.

Marie Murphy, 45, the 2004 MORE Marathon champion, congratulations Loken and the 2005 full marathon winners. Murphy was unable to run this year due to an injury.

Switzer, 57, is the winner of the 1974 New York City Marathon and was the first woman to run the Boston Marathon wearing official numbers. “This event shows that age has no limit,” said Waitz.

In her award ceremony address, Mary Wittenberg, 41, congratulated all the runners and the race organizers. “It’s unique and it celebrates what I personally believe is the greatest demographic in the world: Women over 40!”

Jeannine Shao Collins, Senior Vice President and Group Publisher for MORE magazine and Meredith Publishing Group, was still cheering the runners on after the race. “Congratulations whether you ran, walked, or crawled across the finish line,” she said.
