Word on Rumor St. is that Jon is cheating on Kate; Kate is cheating on Jon; he doesn’t live in the house; she has an ego the size of her now-famous hair spikes. Watching the Gosselin family fall apart before our eyes may make for good ratings on TLC, but some J&K family members have spoken out against the show, even calling for a boycott.
Last week, Kate’s sister and brother-in-law blasted the reality-TV show on CBS’s “The Early Show,” saying the kids are being “exploited” and that “it’s time for America to see the situation for what it really is, which is, unfortunately, there are no laws protecting children in reality-TV shows."
But in an upcoming issue of People magazine, Jon himself says, "Exploited? "I don't even want to use that word, because I think it's ridiculous."
What do you think of Jon & Kate Plus 8? Does the show exploit the children? And do you think people have a moral obligation to stop watching it?
Does Jon & Kate Plus 8 Exploit the Kids?

Why would anybody say it that way, you can easily get your point across in a polite and courteous way. Lets all just get a long.I think what they're doing to their kids is borderline emotional abuse. And people who go along for the ride need to get a hobby.

Of course it exploits the children to an extent; they are the very basis for having a show. I'm not sure I would call the decision of whether to watch or not a moral obligation, just more of a personal choice. Everyone knows rumor and gossip are wrong, right? But this family put themselves out there FOR us to be all up in their business (and have been VERY well rewarded for it!), so it doesn't feel particularly nosy or intrusive to be interested in the details. The interesting thing is, Kate has always said "when it stops being fun, we'll stop doing it". I have to wonder..is this REALLY fun for her now? Sadly I suspect the answer may still lean more towards yes for her; she seems to be really loving the attention on herself, not to mention the monetary reward factor.
Sad day for a family, a marriage, and all those little children we've come to feel are part of our own family.

I feel bad for the kids, while their parents may or may not be miserable in the relationship, the kids have no choice but to be on the show and exhibited 24/7. Even if the cheating and divorce is nothing but a publicity stunt, the negative energy from their parents' strife gotta affect the kids' emotional health somehow. They may not understand the conflict in a conceptual way, but kids pick up on these things, and internalize the bahavior and attitude and would only suffer later in their own relationships.
