What to Watch for a Treat
TLC’s surprise summer hit, Cake Boss, returns for a second season Monday night. The reality show is all about the goings-on of a storied Italian bakery in Hoboken—the drama of creating incredible confections (such as a miniature pool table made of cake, complete with edible balls and cues) and the hijinks of “Cake Boss” Buddy’s large, warm, and opinionated Italian family. There’s no Jon & Kate style scandal here—the worst this family does to each other involves the occasional messy prank.They clearly adore each other and love watching their customers' faces light up. Yes, it’s fun to look at cakes, but it’s the family that makes this show a winner. (As someone who lives just a few blocks from this bakery and has bought many, many cakes there over the years, I feel compelled to mention—at the risk of making the line even longer--that everything tastes at least as good as it looks.)
