Boost Broccoli's Health Benefits

This quick cooking tip makes broccoli an even more valuable addition to your daily diet.

Want to up the anti-aging power of this cruciferous superfood? Steam it for two to four minutes—any longer, and you reduce the potency of myrosinase, an enzyme that broccoli uses to produce the cancer-fighting compound sulforaphane. Then top it with a dressing that contains myrosinase-rich spices, such as mustard, horseradish or wasabi. By incorporating more of this crucial enzyme, you help your body get double the sulforaphane, says a University of Illinois study.
