On optimism
“We think we have all our magic moments when we’re young. You graduate from college, marry, have kids ...then it’s a long haul to the end. But life is full of possibilities. I got my dream job after 40. I also got sick [with breast cancer], but most important, I got better in my forties. I didn’t know all I was capable of until now.”

On the upsides of hard times
“Whatever your cross to bear—cancer, divorce—if you are standing in the end, you earn the four words ‘You can’t scare me.’ I just wrote a book on the topic, Ten Years Later: Six People Who Faced Adversity and Transformed Their Lives.”

On her beauty picks
“On days off, I apply Keratin Complex Vanilla Bean Deep Conditioner [$25;]. I also like Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum [$23; drugstores]. But, truly, going for a run has the most positive impact on my skin.”

Can we please stop writing articles of "this is what XX age looks like?" It is NOT what MOST 48 year olds look like. It's what wealthy TV personalities with access to personal trainers, designer dentists, weekly facials and whatever surgical help they need to NOT look their age. I'm tired of being given some artificial standard to live up to.
