Brightening & Tightening Mask
1 / 12VIEW ALL
Egg whites, honey, and lemon juice are DIY face-mask essentials, and for good reason. Lemon juice helps to lighten dark spots and scars, egg whites tighten skin and shrink pores, and honey helps retain moisture and heal skin. This mask from The Kitchen McCabe combines all of those qualities into one simple mask. You'll need:
- 1 egg white
- 1/2 tablespoon raw honey
- 1/2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- Small brush
Combine the ingredients in a deep bowl, and whisk until foamy. Then, using a small brush, spread the mixture over your clean face. Make sure to avoid the eye area. Let the mask sit for about 30 minutes or until it has completely dried. Then rinse off the mask with warm water and a washcloth. Splash with cold water, and gently pat dry.

This "mud" mask isn't exactly made of mud but works nonetheless. Combining the skin-care benefits of Greek yogurt, honey, cocoa, buttermilk, banana, and lemon juice, this mud mask from Essentially Eclectic will leave your skin feeling exactly the same as any store-bought mask. You'll need:
- 2–3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon buttermilk
- 1/4–1/2 of a banana, mashed
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Note: This recipe makes enough for 3 to 5 masks.
Mix all the ingredients in a blender or food processor until the mixture is thick enough that it will not run down your face. Apply a layer to your face, and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse the mask away with cool water, and splash with cold water to close up your pores.

Getting rid of blackheads is sometimes easier said than done. This AllDayChic recipe claims to eliminate blackheads without buying expensive pore strips. But be careful; it's very sticky. You'll need:
- 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- Small bowl
- Makeup brush
Combine the gelatin and milk in the small mixing bowl. Mix the ingredients well, and microwave them for 15 seconds. This will make the mixture sticky. Then take the bowl from the microwave, and make sure the mask isn't too warm. As soon as possible, apply the composition to your face using the makeup brush. Finally, let it dry, and then gently peel it off.
