Grey Expectations: The Fourth Appointment

While shopping at Trader Joe’s the day after my fourth hair appointment at Salon AKS with Kathleen Flynn-Hui, I noticed a young woman looking at me. A few turns around the fruits and vegetables and she still seemed to be staring. I made eye contact with her and she walked over and said “I’m so sorry, but I can’t stop looking at your hair. It looks like a painting. The different colors – the brown, the grey, the blonde – all blend so beautifully together.” She then went on to say that she was a professor of art at a local college who had just finished teaching her color theory class.

So, if there’s any doubt that the word “colorist” does not adequately describe what Kathleen does, I hope this story dispels it. Is it an overstatement to say she is an artist? Perhaps, but I will say it anyway.

And, while being told that I look like a painting is about as good as it gets, I loved what my husband said to me earlier this month even more: “I don’t even remember what you used to look like with dark hair. I love the way you look so much.”

Another one, from a former colleague who saw a recent photo of me: “I love the new look you are sporting. You look so young!”

So many compliments, so little time! Going grey is so much more fun than I thought it would be!
