8 Iconic Beauty Looks & Why You Need One

Some beauty looks are so classic and iconic that they are able to transcend decades and inspire generations to come. Who wouldn't want that kind of following? These eight signature beauty looks put these celebs on the map for makeup, and there's no denying why. Read on to discover how you can create a signature beauty look for yourself too!

It doesn't take a celebrity makeup artist to figure out what your signature beauty style should be (although one certainly wouldn't hurt). Study these iconic celebrity beauties for inspiration. Are you a red-lipped vixen, a master of winged eyeliner, or something entirely your own?

Taylor Swift
Picture T-Swizzle without a red lip. Hard to do right? That's because she's pioneered this as her signature beauty look, wearing it time and time again—from album covers to music videos to award-show appearances. What's great about this is that when she does deviate with a smokier eye and a nude lip, she looks like a totally new woman! Taylor pulls off her bold lip look by keeping her eyes clean and displays a wholesome image that never goes down the pinup road, despite what her makeup might say.

Jennifer Lopez
You will always find J.Lo and glow in the same sentence. Though she started out as a Fly Girl on In Living Color with a dramatically different look, once meeting and working with celebrity makeup artist Scott Barnes, the J.Lo glow was born. Barnes' Body Bling product was originally made for her! Her bronze, glowing skin is almost always paired with a glossy nude lip, feathery lashes, and metallic shadows on the eyes. This is the woman who once wore red fox fur lashes; I mean, come on. She has since partnered with L'Oréal numerous times, and you can steal a little of her magic with her Colour Riche nude lipstick, appropriately called Jennifer's Nude

Gwen Stefani
Gwen has kept her red pout going strong since her Tragic Kingdom days. While she paired it with a bindi then, her red lips have persevered all the way through to her gig on The Voice. We've seen her hair get blonder and blonder, and occasionally we even see Miss Stefani flip the switch with nude lips—a soft and pretty look on her in contrast to the usual red lips. Urban Decay recognizes that this California girl knows what's up, recently collaborating with her on her own mega-popular palette.

Rihanna

Rihanna
With deep, vampy lips and ever-changing hair, RiRi sports a look as badass as she is. So much so, that MAC Cosmetics partnered with her on a lipstick collection with shades like RiRi Woo and Heaux. Rihanna tends to keep the focus on her lips, going easier on the eyes. Whenever I wear a dark purple lip, I feel like threatening people for the money they owe me too.

Marilyn Monroe
Norma Jean transformed herself into one of the most well known sex symbols of all time by dying her brown hair blonde and consistently sporting voluptuously contoured red lips. For those bedroom eyes, Marilyn kept her lids minimal on shadow but used brown and black liners to create a thin cat-eye line. While some starlets of her time drew on a faux beauty mark, Marilyn's was all her own.

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse
Amy's look was so uniquely her that the perfect Halloween costume is only a beehive wig and an ultra-thick winged liner away. Her cat eyes weren't the razor-sharp ones of today but a thicker, blunter style that only she could pull off, the liner nearly covering her entire lid. Amy alternated between muted red lips and no lip color at all but always, always those eyes.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner
Look, I don't want to give the Kardashians more coverage than they already have—but Kylie did for lip liner and matte lipsticks what Michael Jordan did for Nike. Kylie's signature brown/mauve matte lips, carefully overlined to high heaven, made us all double-tap her Instagram photos time and time again. Then there was the horrifying "Kyler Jenner Lip Challenge" involving sucking on a shot glass to temporarily plump up your lips. Eek! Kylie recently released three lip kits that, of course, sold out in minutes. Girl is doing something right.

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung
Chung's delicate cat eye is so coveted and perfectly executed that Eyeko released a limited-edition Alexa Chung liner and mascara set. Her look is always clean, effortless, and fresh with a feminine edge. Chung typically pairs her signature wings with either a red lip or a pale, barely-there pink pout. Her disheveled lob haircut makes us keep considering bangs—but we mere mortals might not have that Chung touch, the epitome of London-girl cool.

Finding Your Signature Beauty Look
The best way to figure out what your look should be is to first assess your features. Gorgeous full lips? Maybe a bold lip is the way to go. Exotic eyes that people always compliment you on? Maybe it's winged liner for you, sister. Sometimes others will tell you what your "thing" is. This is the feature or makeup aspect you tend to get the most questions or compliments on. This could be bold brows, glowing skin, or just consistently rocking your favorite hot pink lipstick. Your signature beauty look is the one that you feel most you in. You'll know once you find your thing because you'll feel naked without it.

Ivy Boyd

I have a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, but it's creating works of art on faces that I love most. By day, I am a Senior Education Consultant for Sephora as well as a freelance makeup artist. The rest of the time, I'm creating content for my makeup and beauty blog, Wake Up for Makeup, reading product reviews, watching tutorial videos and reading makeup artist books. I live and breathe this stuff and if you could eat makeup, I'd probably do that too. I also love painting abstracts, running, attending music festivals and acting weird with my husband and our two awesome cats. I'm here to tell you what products are legit, how to better use the ones you have, give you ideas to shake up your routine and guide you through some fun tutorials I know you can dominate.
