Lashes thinning? You needn’t suffer in silence. These steps are the inverse of Spanx: They fatten you up instantly

BEFORE

After 40, lashes often pull a disappearing act.

STEP ONE

To disguise skinny lashes, start by curling them. Adding bend to your fringe makes what’s there appear more prominent.

STEP TWO

To fatten up the outer corners-where lashes become straggly first-add a few clusters (three single false lashes fused together at one end with plastic). With a tweezer, pick up a cluster; dip its plastic end in a drop of lash glue, and place it at your upper lid’s outer corner. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat, placing clusters along your lash line until you get the fullness you desire. (Three clusters per eye is probably plenty).

STEP THREE

"Apply two coats of mascara to help bind the false lashes to your real ones," says Soul Lee, a Shu Uemura makeup artist. Tip: Lee says that on false-lash days, you should avoid "fiber" mascara formulas, which can make the falsies clump together with your real ones, creating an unflattering spider-leg effect.

STEP FOUR

Apply liquid liner along your upper lash line. This hides any plastic knots or dried white adhesive. Note: To remove the clusters before bed, use baby oil to soften the glue, then gently peel them off.
