New Eye-deas: Hope (or Hype) in a Tube?

By Terry Hyaluronic Eye Primer

The Claim This tinted mousse-like eyelid primer (available in three nude shades) is said to even out the skin tone on your eyelids, boost eyeshadow’s endurance and smooth fine lines. The Verdict "I applied this to my eyelids to make the skin there look less red. Then I tapped it over my dark circles, and I think it made them appear lighter. The product also had a lifting effect that seemed to make me look better rested. And while I don’t usually wear eyeshadow, the primer stayed put all day, which I imagine would make anything applied on top do the same. It’s a keeper." ?-Natasha Lunn, photo director $46;

YSL Touche Eclat in Shade No. 6

The Claim A makeup-artist staple, this best-selling concealer-highlighter hybrid is said to help conceal dark shadows around the eyes as well as make the whole eye area look dewy and refreshed (and you more awake). This fall the collection will add three new shades for deeper skin tones: No. 5, No. 6 (which we tested) and No. 8. The verdict "As a woman of color, I have a hard time finding wearable concealer: They are usually either too light or simply the wrong tone. But Touche Eclat in No. 6 blended beautifully, and it arrived at just the right moment. I’m a new mom and desperate for ways to cover my now-chronic dark circles." ?-Alesha Hardwick-Whyte, editorial assistant $40;

Anastasia Illumin8 Eye Shadow Palette No. 2

The Claim A cosmetic with skin-care benefits, this five-color eyeshadow palette is infused with what the company calls a "youthful synergy" blend of vitamins, antioxidants and algae said to firm, lift and smooth sagging eyelids. The verdict "I liked the mix of colors in the palette; they were mostly matte, but there was a little shimmer for when I was in the mood. The colors also lasted the day without melting away. And although I can’t say I saw any signs of serious lifting, the shadows did seem to help conceal crepiness." ?-Judy Coyne, executive editor $40;

Laura Geller Lash Varnish

The Claim Touted as "high-octane shine" for your lashes, this blue-sparkle topcoat can be applied on bare lashes to create a sheer shiny finish or over your mascara to boost glossiness. The verdict "At first the blue goo, which is infused with metallic sparkles, made me nervous; it looked like something Lady Gaga would love. So I applied it conservatively. However, I was very surprised at the result. The blue tone and sparkles disappeared, leaving my lashes a bit shinier but not dramatically so. In spite of my initial trepidation, the effect was almost too subtle. I liked it fine, but it won’t replace my mascara." ?-Katie Dunn, contributing photo editor $20;

Eyetini Double Shot Mascara and Eyeliner in Black Magic

The Claim This multitasking product packs a mascara and an eye-liner into one compact product-and promises long wear. The verdict "I tested this on vacation, and the mascara did weather days at the beach-as well as long nights out-without smudging. The liner also didn’t fade. However, the trade-off was that both products were a pain to take off. I had to use a lot of remover. So I’d skip the duo for every day but wear them for evening events when I wanted my makeup to really last." ?-Daniela Jelaska, assistant to the editor-in-chief $24;
