Need a good excuse to indulge in that strawberry shortcake, blueberry cobbler or strawberry-rhubarb pie? Your memory might last longer.
CNN reports a recent study that involved some 16,000 women older than 70 finds that those who chowed down on more berries each week “have up to a 2.5-year advantage in terms of when they showed signs of memory decline.”
Before you start filling your fridge with berries, keep in mind that the California Strawberry Commission gave money to fund the study, the network cautions. But CNN does add that lead author Elizabeth Devore, who works at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, says the research was totally independent.
“I’d recommend that both men and women eat more berries,” she tells CNN.
