Being a mom isn’t easy, but depending on the country you live in, it could be a lot better—or a lot worse.
The United States is the 25th best place to be a mother, according to Save the Children’s latest State of the World’s Mothers report, released annually. That’s behind the likes of Norway, New Zealand, Australia, Denmark and Iceland, which are first through fifth, respectively.
The worst places to be a mom are, not surprisingly, in the least developed nations, with Somalia, Niger, Chad and Afghanistan near the bottom of the list.
Save the Children takes into account information such as education, economics and health care access, the Business Insider reports. The site has reprinted a detailed graphic from the National Post that looks at the numbers in close detail.
One area the U.S. is really lagging in: the number of government seats held by women. And, yes, it is an election year.
