For the fourth year in a row, we asked More’s Opinionista reader panel to become grooming guinea pigs, testing fall’s new fragrances, cosmetics and hair AND skin products (111 in all). Here, their top picks

Fruity, floral and woodsy: This new scent is hard to categorize, though testers seemed to agree that the overall effect was quite fresh, on the sweet side and appropriate for every day. Adjectives included “pleasant,” “nice and light” and “easy to wear.”One tester went so far as to spritz it on her sheets. “I sprayed it on my linens after washing them, and by night it had faded somewhat, leaving a just-strong-enough scent,” she said.

Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau Fraiche

 ($55; esteelauder.com)

 

Although it shares many notes with Estée Lauder’s best-selling Pleasures, this new Eau Fraîche version of the popular fragrance is slightly cleaner smelling, as though the strong floral notes have been dialed down and the green notes amped up. Testers were universal in their praise, calling it fresh and “not overly sweet.”

Givenchy Eaudemoiselle De Givenchy

Rose-scented fragrances can be polarizing, but this elegant blend won more fans than detractors. Raves included “Felt appropriate for my age” and “Grownup but not old-smelling.”

Jo Malone London Blackberry & Bay Cologne ($60-$110; jomalone.com)

Crisp and tart, this scent was well liked by our testers. A few wished the fragrance had endured a little longer but said that was preferable to its coming on too strong.

Juliette Has a Gun Romantina

This new version of cult favorite Juliette Has a Gun is a floral—with an edge. And testers got that juxtaposition right away, with comments such as “Flowery yet masculine” and “Floral, spicy—and a little earthy.”
