A woman’s risk of cervical cancer drops by nearly half within a year of having this T-shaped contraceptive inserted into her uterus, according to a study in Lancet Oncology. Researchers suspect its placement triggers an immune response that prevents human papillomavirus, one cause of cervical cancer, from progressing to cancer.
