A group of cougars and cubs vacationing on the high seas caused quite a stir aboard a Carnival cruise liner, implies a report in USA Today, which states that the cruise giant will no longer host cougar-themed escapes. Carnival PR Director Jennifer de la Cruz confirmed the news with MORE, saying that it was “simply a business decision” and providing no further comment on the issue.
“My wife Debbie escorted the cougar cruise,” Rich Gosse, Chairman of the Society of Single Professionals and organizer of the event, told MORE. “There weren’t any problems. Everyone had a good time and it went along very smoothly. The Carnival staff was terrific.” The maiden voyage cruised from December 4-7 on the Carnival Elation. Rooms were blocked off by the organization and gave single cougars the chance to mix and mingle with potential young suitors. For those cub-seekers who missed out, fear not. The Society is planning two cougar cruises for 2010, this time with Royal Caribbean and the Norwegian Cruise Line. Check www.cougarevents.com for itineraries and updates. In an interview on the set of the new Sex and the City movie, Kim Catrall told the London Daily Mail she doesn’t like the "negative connotation" the term cougar has acquired. It suggests "a woman of a certain age hanging out in a club where she can pick up young men. Catrall, 53, who recently broke up with her boyfriend, Alan Wyse, who is 20 years her junior, says, "I never considered Samantha to be that. And certainly not myself . . . I could not go into a bar and pick up a man . . . I am totally insecure. That is predatory behaviour, and I don’t consider myself a predator." (1/7/10)
