Report: ‘Boys on the Bus’ World Still True in Political Reporting

Women’s Media Center survey finds three quarters of election-campaign bylines belong to men

Women’s issues may be key to this year’s presidential campaigns, but it’s men who are reporting on them.

According to a report from the Women’s Media Center compiled by the 4th Estate Project, three quarters of newspaper stories covering the election from January 1 to August 25 were written by men.

“In this so-called ‘Year of the Woman,’ this study just goes to show that when it comes to presidential elections it’s still a ‘boys on the bus’ world,” Julie Burton, president of the Women’s Media Center, says in a release.
