Blondie celebrates its 40th anniversary with a new CD and world tour.
I’ve spent my adult life performing and loved it. My boyfriend was our guitarist Chris Stein, and we’re still collaborators and good friends.
Blondie 4(0) Ever is available for preorder on iTunes.
We recorded our oldie hits with new material to show our die-hard fans where we are today musically.
Getting started: Singing came naturally to me. I moved to New York and supported myself as a go-go dancer and a Playboy bunny. For a while, I sang back-up for a friend’s folk group. But it was the crazy world of punk and rock that really won me over.
Express yourself: It’s incredible to me that I was considered super fashionable. Early on I discovered that if you want to be happy, you need to dress the way you feel. Sometimes that takes brains, or maybe balls, but if you don’t wear something that is personally part of you, you won’t be comfortable.
On cosmetic surgery: Part of my job is to make the most of what I have, so I decided to get some subtle work done. You need a good surgeon, and you can’t be neurotic about your looks. If you try to look like someone else, you’ll never be happy.
As time goes by: Now that I’m older, I think it would be nice to have kids, and I think I’d be a great parent. I’ve thought of adopting, but I’m not sure I have the necessary energy. I’m glad I’ve got my pets to love.
Soul support: I have a slogan for when things get messed up: “Wait for the turnaround.” We all suffer losses in life. Some hold on for their kids, others through faith. For me, losing myself in a job that I love has always worked best.
