Away We Go

Director Sam Mendes (_Revolutionary Road_) gets warm and witty in this story of an expectant couple (John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph) who visit friends and relatives (including Allison Janney, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Catherine O’Hara, at left with Rudolph) while trying to decide where to live. The hip yet heartfelt screenplay is by literary spouses Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida.

My Life In Ruins

My Big Fat Greek Wedding‘s Nia Vardalos returns in another ouzo-infused comedy, about an academic who cuts loose while guiding a tour of ancient Greece. The plot is predictable, but Vardalos is winning, and the scenery makes this a recession-friendly alternative to your own Greek getaway.

Nurse Jackie

"I don’t do chatty. I like quiet. Quiet and mean: Those are my people." With that is born another edgy cable character we’d happily have a drink with. Edie Falco stars as an ER nurse whose ability matches her attitude; she’s also got a few possibly fatal flaws. If she ever teamed up with Dr. Gregory House, the hospital would explode. (Showtime)
