Australian director Cate Shortland offers a haunting picture of a young girl’s loss of innocence. Fourteen-year-old Lore (Saskia Rosendahl, left) must care for four siblings when her Nazi parents are imprisoned in postwar Germany. After she is befriended by a Jewish man (Kai Malina), her journey becomes a poignant allegory for a country struggling for identity in the wake of unimaginable horror.
