While the world's obsession with America's darling, Jennifer Lawrence, seems to have faded a bit, ours never will. There are lots of good reasons JLaw is still the celebrity we love to love, but we think it has something to do with her stereotype-shattering persona. Here are our favorite JLaw moments that defied everything we know about female celebrities.
1. She cut all her hair off.
While Jennifer Lawrence isn't the first female celebrity to chop off her long locks, her cut's Facebook debut definitely made a big splash. The reviews were mixed—some even called it the "Kate Gosselin look"—but the young starlet stuck to her guns and rocked that pixie for another year. Who says you need long hair to completely own a red carpet?
2. She speaks candidly in interviews
Gone are the days of the carefully manicured superstars. These days, fans want their celebrities to be honest, real, and totally relatable, a trend that can largely be credited to Jennifer Lawrence. Her off-the-cuff food cravings and too-much-information late night stories made the country fall in love. To our delight, lots of stars are now following suit.
3. She isn't exactly graceful.
Red carpet celebrities are usually expected to maintain a certain amount of elegance and grace under the watchful cameras of the press, but Jennifer Lawrence must not have gotten the memo. In 2013, she famously fell on the way up to accepting an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook and then again—yes, again—stepping out of a limo at the 2014 Oscar's.
4. She eats junk food.
JLaw's love affair with junk food is no secret in Hollywood. While most actresses maintain very strict health regimen, Lawrence is singing pizza's praises, and for good reason. She is a staunch advocate for depicting realistic body types on screen and is dedicated to the cause. If that means eating a cheeseburger every once in a while, all the better.
5. She doesn't do diets.
As a self-appointed junk foodie, diets aren't exactly in Lawrence's future. So don't expect JLaw to be playing a ballerina any time soon. She isn't into losing a quick 20 pounds for a role, so don't ask.
6. She wanted to wear the same dress as Amy Schumer.
It's easy to see why so many celebrities dread an appearance in a "Who Wore It Better" article. That kind of comparison can be seriously hurtful. So it was surprising when Lawrence came out saying that she and Schumer would wear matching Dior dresses at the Academy Awards. Unfortunately, it never came to pass. Dior didn't seem to like the idea.
7. She's outspoken
When nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence and others were leaked on the Internet, fans weren't sure what she'd do but staying quiet definitely wasn't in the cards. The young starlet didn't disappoint and came out with an explosive Vanity Fair cover story. She wasn't the only celeb affected by the hacked nude photos but she certainly hit back the hardest.
8. She's very selective about men.
Lawrence isn't the type of star to flit from relationship to relationship. She once joked that it had been so long that her hymen was growing back. She dated X-Men co-star Nicholas Hoult for a whopping four years before moving on to Coldplay singer Chris Martin. These days, she's reportedly in a relationship with director Darren Aronofsky, but she maintains that boys can be really mean.
9. She's not a fashionista.
Of course, Jennifer Lawrence often tops our "best dressed" lists, but she's perfectly open about how she got there. She told E!, "I really would not call myself a fashion icon. I would call myself somebody who gets dressed by professionals. [It's like], 'Dance, monkey, dance,' right on the red carpet. I would call me more of a monkey."
10. She likes silly movies.
Of course, JLaw is known for winning Oscar after Oscar in her early twenties, but the actress isn't as artsy as she seems. While many actors favor movie classics, Lawrence's movies of choice are more along the lines of Dumb and Dumber; Planes, Trains and Automobiles; There's Something about Mary; and Bridget Jones's Diary.
11. She's open about her anxiety.
During a time where mental illness is still very stigmatized, most celebrities stay quiet about their mental afflictions, not Lawrence however. As early as 2012, the actress has spoken out about her anxieties. She talked to Glamour about her impending fame: "I feel like I'm in the eye of the hurricane right now. ... It's just scary. I feel like I got a ticket to go to another planet and I'm moving there and there's no turning back, and I don't know if I'm going to like that other planet or have friends there. It's daunting."
12. She's not into social media.
Most of the biggest—and youngest—stars right now maintain their fame on social media platforms, Instagram in particular. But JLaw prefers to leave what's left of her private life private. She told BBC host Nick Grimshaw, "If you ever see a Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter that says it's me, it most certainly is not me."
13. She's a big hometown sports fan.
It's common for celebrities to adopt NYC or LA sports teams as their own, but Jennifer Lawrence remains loyal to her Kentucky roots. She makes frequent appearances at University of Louisville basketball games and seems to know all the Cards cheers.
