20 Celebrity Marriages so Brief It's Like They Never Happened

For better or worse, for richer or poorer, for less than a year, apparently. The brides and grooms in these short celebrity marriages had barely left the altar before the divorce papers were drawn up. Yikes! Whether it was a luxe fairy-tale wedding or a quick stop in Vegas, these "I dos" were quickly followed by "I don'ts."

Pop princess Britney Spears married her childhood friend, Jason Alexander, at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Vegas at approximately 5 a.m. on January 3, 2004. Spears sported very casual wedding attire: a crop top, ripped jeans, and white baseball cap. The couple was drunk on love (and perhaps other substances) and spent their wedding night in Sin City. Just 55 hours later, Spears (and her encouraging manager) filed for an annulment. She said she "lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage."

Tracey Edmonds and Eddie Murphy, 2 Weeks

3 / 20

Producer Tracey Edmonds and comedian Eddie Murphy were married in a ceremony on a private Bora Bora island on New Year's Day in 2008. However, all couldn't have been right in paradise. Ali Landry and Mario Lopez, 18 Days

4 / 20

Mario Lopez may have starred in "Saved by the Bell," but he couldn't save his 2004 marriage to model/actress Ali Landry. After the marriage, Lopez fessed up to being unfaithful to his then-fiancée during his bachelor party weekend in Mexico. The couple had dated for six whole years before their wedding, making this one of the saddest and shortest celebrity marriages.

Drew Barrymore and Jeremy Thomas, 32 Days

5 / 20

Drew Barrymore may win this shortest celebrity marriages list, making it more than once. Her first husband was Jeremy Thomas, but Barrymore had called off two previous engagements. They married in Thomas's L.A. bar, The Room, in the early morning hours on March 20, 1994, when Barrymore was only 19 years old. A minister/psychic performed the ceremony along with her bulldog Jimmy. Barrymore called the impulsive marriage off just over a month later.

But in October, Reid claimed the two "were never really married" because they didn't legalize the marriage in the United States.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, 72 Days

8 / 20

What would a list be without a Kardashian in the mix? Reality show queen Kim Kardashian wed NBA player Kris Humphries in a lavish affair. The wedding was a media extravaganza, making the Kardashian franchise about $17.9 million. The ceremony was captured for the memory books in a two-day E! special called "Kim's Fairytale Wedding." Of course, not all was newlywed bliss; Kardashian filed for divorce 72 days after saying "I do." All for cameras and cash? You decide.

Aaliyah and R. Kelly, 90 Days

9 / 20

Teen music sensation Aaliyah—who died tragically in 2001—left behind a lasting legacy of '90s hits, but the R&B/pop singer's marriage to R. Kelly was much more short-lived. R. Kelly first served as her mentor, lead songwriter, and producer on her debut album Age Ain't Nothing But a Number, but he became her husband on August 31, 1994. The marriage certificate listed Aaliyah as 18, when she was only 15 at the time; the marriage was quickly annulled by her parents.

Nicky Hilton and Todd Meister, 3 Months

10 / 20

On August 15, 2004, at 2:30 a.m. (the perfect time to get married, right?), Nicky Hilton tied the knot with businessman Todd Meister in Vegas. Witnesses included Hilton's sister Paris and friend Nicole Richie. Their long-distance relationship—he worked in NYC and she out of L.A.—took a toll on the wedded couple, and they divorced just a few days shy of their three-month anniversary.

The breakup was apparently mutual, although Esposito went on to describe Cooper as "a master manipulator" in her book Jennifer's Way.

Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock, 122 Days

13 / 20

If their wedding attire was any indicator of how serious this couple was about their marriage, no one should have been surprised by Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock's short relationship. The couple married on a yacht in St. Tropez in July 2006. Anderson rocked a white string bikini while Rock wore a plain white tee and baseball cap. By Thanksgiving, the newlyweds filed for divorce.

Drew Barrymore and Tom Green, 5 Months

14 / 20

Here she is again! Barrymore married former MTV talk-show host Tom Green in July 2001, but Green filed for divorce just five months later. Who can blame them, though, with such a rough start to their marriage? Green was battling testicular cancer at the time, and a fire damaged Barrymore's home. Years later on "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" Green offered up goodwill toward his ex. "I haven't talked to her in many, many years," he said. "I'm glad she's doing great. I'm really happy that she's doing good."
