7/22: An announcement revealing the sex of Prince William and Kate Middleton's baby was just released via Twitter! The couple gave birth to an 8-pound 6-ounce baby boy today at 4:24 p.m. local time in London's St. Mary's Hospital. The as-yet-unnamed baby will be heir to the British throne, though the 300-year-old rule that only a first-born male would be heir was relaxed to allow the new baby to take the title either way. In the past, female heirs—like the current Queen Elizabeth—would be crowned only if they had no brothers. It looks as though we'll be waiting at least one more generation of royalty to see the first uncontested female heir.
Update 7/23: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have left London's St. Mary's Hospital with their yet-to-be-named baby in tow. Photographers were able to get the first snaps of the baby as the royal trio posed and waved to onlookers. Even though all we can see is a little bit of the baby's head, we're sure he's adorable!
Update 7/24: A name has been released! The royal baby will be known as Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge. We love that they chose something so traditional. What do you think of the royal baby's name? We're just glad it wasn't one of these wacky celebrity baby names.
