"To Lie, Press 1. To Make Excuses, Press 2..."

OK, maybe it’s the woman’s oh-so-perfect diction. Or her Monty Pythonesque accent. But this answering machine message, attributed to a high school in Queensland, Australia, is just too funny. "To lie about why your child is absent – Press 1. To make excuses for why your child did not do his homework – Press 2. To complain about what we do – Press 3." And it just keeps getting wilder from there as the options escalate. Alas, when we called the school (because we are, after all, investigative journalists), the outgoing message was plain vanilla. Turns out this voice mailbox message has been debunked at Snopes as an urban legend that has also made the rounds as the purported answering machine message of a high school in California. But that won’t stop us from listening, laughing and sharing. Have fun!
