I am 62 years old and just recently retired as an administrative assistant working for the U. S. Government for 21 years and 6 months and worked 16 years outside of the government. I made the decision to retire at age 61, to move back to my hometown of Charleston, WV from Northern VA, to spend more time with my children and grandchildren. I was feeling really stressed and decided that life is too short. I thought this out for a full year before retiring and decided to bite the bullet and retire. I do not miss working at all ! I am temporarily living with my son and his family until I purchase a home, which is in the final stages of closing. I have enjoyed my stay with them as I have been able to bond with my 21 month old grandson.
I have had some ups and downs in my life, married and divorced twiced, but overall I have had a great career with the government – lived in Bonn, Germany for three years , working at the Embassy in Bonn.
I can honestily say that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonaide.
I am very graetful, that I have a good pension and making this move was the best decision, as I’m still in fairly good health. I do have hypertension have to watch my blood pressure and am on medication, but with exercising and eating healthy, I look forward to a long and happy retirement. Yes, the economy is bad, but by being positive and making the right choices for yourself, you have the abililty to make your life the way you would like it to be.
I am excited about fixing up my new home and hope to travel some in the near future. Life is Good!!!
