Forget adultery, financial problems or irreconcilable differences. Facebook is the trendy new reason couples are calling it quits.
According to the website SmartMoney, a recent U.K. survey from the legal-services company Divorce Online shows more than 33 percent of divorce papers included “Facebook” in the filing, and the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers adds that more than 80 percent of Stateside attorneys say social networking is rising as a reason for marriage breakups.
“Affairs happen with a lightning speed on Facebook,” K. Jason Krafsky, coauthor of Facebook and Your Marriage, tells the site. “On Facebook, [affairs] happen in just a few clicks . . . It puts temptation in the path of people who would never in a million years risk having an affair.”
Let’s hope the newly wed Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg avoids such temptation.
