Denim Alert! What'...

Denim Alert! What's New In Jeans this Season

Jeans of some kind are always in style, but our denim preferences change all the time, and what was in last season may be passé this one. The good news is, this season's hot denim styles will fit any body type and can be styled to work for nearly any occasion. Check out the must-have jeans that should be filling your drawers this spring.

My journey with jeans has been a long uphill battle. I had decided a number of years ago that denim was just not for my body-type. Nothing seemed to fit right and I always felt uncomfortable in what was considered the most comfortable item in someone's wardrobe. It wasn't until recently that I began to notice that denim came in more than one style, in more than one color, and, lo and behold, there are a ton of brands to choose from! This spring I vowed to wear more denim and luckily this season is filled with some fresh trends that I love. Try out these four denim styles, washes and rock star brands for Spring 2014.

High-Waisted Skinnies
High-waisted cuts are flattering for all figures (and super sexy), they tuck in the tummy, elongate the legs and, with the right cut, can really shape your bum to perfection. Sheryl of Walk in Wonderland shows how to pair a high-waisted skinny bottom with a fun printed blouse for a casual look with a bit of sex appeal. 7 For All Mankind has great high-waisted skinnies in an array of colors and finishes. Here are some great picks if you're shopping for a pair of high-waisted jeans:

Boyfriend Jeans
Aah, the boyfriend jean: It's been around for a few seasons and this spring it's bigger than ever! The slouchy fit is extremely comfortable, but be careful wearing this style because it can come off frumpy. Pair a casual pair of boyfriend jeans with sky-high pumps like Swedish blogger Victoria of Victoria Törnegren to give you height and balance the shape of the pant. One Teaspoon has the boyfriend jeans I covet most, but here are some other great options:

Flare Jeans
If you thought flares were stuck in the '70s you're wrong. Flares are here to stay and slowly turning into a classic cut. Aimee Song of Song of Style shows us how to wear a monochromatic look by pairing white flares with a white everyday T-shirt. The look is understated, easy and totally chic. MiH Marrakesh flares are a staple in their line and so flattering! More great options for flared jeans:

Mom Jeans
Yes, mom jeans are one of the biggest denim trends this season. The formerly frowned upon style is now extremely coveted, and I personally love them! The style is basically a combination of the high-waisted skinny and the boyfriend, it zips up to your waist yet is relaxed throughout the leg. Danielle of We Wore What is the queen of mom jeans and shows us how to update the style with a fitted blazer.

As far as washes and finishes go, it's all about classic colors and worn finishes this season. The brightly colored denim of the past couple years is being replaced by more timeless go-with-anything hues like acid wash blue, white, and faded black. Overly distressed jeans with lots of fraying and holes are also on the rise. Those pre-shredded pairs can cost a pretty penny, but you can also try your hand at some DIY distressing to get the look. We found this great video tutorial from Free People to help you out.

Well, I love bunnies, eat way too much candy and love to write sappy quotes about life, love and surviving my quarter life crisis in Los Angeles.
