We loved this bold trend seen on the runway at Milly and Rebecca Minkoff, to name a few. And celebrities are taking on the trend as well, rocking the look on the red carpet and evenings out. Rihanna got a ton of attention this summer when she stepped out for night of clubbing in London wearing a bold sequined crop top, an iridescent clutch, and hologram heels. Kate Moss carried a hologram clutch while shopping with friend Stella McCartney in Paris last fall, and Vampire Diaries actress Kat Graham wore a neutral sheath accented with a large swath of holographic fabric to the 2012 Environmental Media Awards last October.
Ready to try the hologram trend? Your first option is to go all-out. Rock a dark holographic dress with super simple black pumps, or amp up skinny jeans and a white tee with a holographic biker jacket. Or maybe you’re more of a stylishly understated gal. A dark holographic tote or holographic nail polish will still pack a holographic punch without making as bold a statement as some of our other picks.
The key to this trend is that one holographic piece is all you need to make a chic statement. Any more than that and you’ll look like you’re heading to a costume party, which is not the goal. Word to the wise when it comes to this season's hologram trend: Stay away from nineties-esque novelty pieces and opt instead for sophisticated iridescent picks.
