Bib overalls are here. They've done the impossible: made a comeback. You may not have seen a pair since Michelle rocked them on Full House, but you’re going to be seeing them more often. I repeat: This isn't a dream. Denim overalls for women are making a comeback and in very chic form, I might add.
I’ll be honest, when I heard this trend was really going to happen (unlike the word "fetch") I was skeptical. How could a trend I spent most of my childhood wearing possibly be making a comeback? What would be next? The huge '80s scrunchies? I couldn’t bare the thought.
My mind was changed when I saw women's overalls filling the runways at New York Fashion Week. And, of course, after the outpour of designers sending overalls down the runway came the celebrity craze. Some of the chicest gals on the block are rocking the denim overalls trend and actually getting it right!
So, just how do you get it right? That’s what I’m here for. The most important rule of overalls is their fit. You can’t just go to any old vintage store and buy the first pair you see. Women's overalls must fit correctly. First, decide whether you want them to be a little closer fitting or loose. Once you’ve established that, decide what color of denim looks best on you. When it comes to figuring out what to pair with overalls, it all depends on your occasion. They’re mostly worn on more casual affairs with, say, a striped tee or cute silk cami. But I’m loving the way Alexa Chung dressed up her overalls by adding a nice blouse with neck detail and some sick wedges. The key to this trend is trial and error. Rock ’em like Rachel over your suit or on a day out with the kids like Alessandra. It’s all about finding the right fit so that you feel comfortable and confident when wearing your overalls.
