Spring 2013 Jean Trends

Jean trends this season run the gamut. We're seeing printed varieties in everything from bold geometric shapes and colorful cityscapes to vibrant floral patterns and whimsical vintage designs. We've also got a whole new crop of springy colors to choose from—everything from soft pastels to neon brights and every shade in between. But perhaps the most exciting trend this season is the slouchy, relaxed fit. It's been some time since we've been given the green light to wear jeans that actually allow us to breathe and I'm prepared to take advantage of it. On that note, here are my some of my favorites for this season and a look at how some of the better-known fashionistas are wearing them.

Tattered: Hudson Jeans Krista Super Skinny in Blondie

1 / 10

$143.50, Bloomingdales

No matter how hard we might try to create the desired amount of tattered and torn at home, it’s hard to achieve just the right level of imperfection. This highly sought-after look of distress usually only comes with years of wear and tear, which is why many of us have no qualms about paying for jeans that have been destroyed for us. When you're ready to indulge, here’s a pair to put you right on trend this season.

Paired with a lightweight T-shirt and metallic-accented sandals, Khloe looks chic and comfy in her tattered skinnies as she prepares to jet out of LAX with husband Lamar Odom.

Printed: J Brand 620 Super Skinny Jeans

3 / 10

$240, Shopbop

The streets are going to be filled with more paisley print, tie-dye, camouflage, feathers, animal print, polka dots, and fruit and floral than we ever imagined possible. When it comes to prints this spring, the possibilities are endless. We love the bold floral print on this pair by J Brand.

While hanging out with friend Rachel Bilson in L.A., Kristen pairs slender-cut jeans in a bold floral print with a comfortable chambray shirt and ankle boots for a casual-yet-stylish look.

Slouched: MiH Phoebe Slouch Leg Jeans

5 / 10

$250, Shopbop

I think it’s safe to say that this is one trend we're all relieved to see come about. Whether you're dressing them down with a pair of flat sandals and a loose sweater or dressed up with a pair of clogs or pointy-toe pumps and a tank, the loose, non-restricted cut means more comfort. And more comfort is always a good thing, right?

Slouched: Halle Berry

A great pair of buckle-baring ankle boots and a slouchy sweater bring a casual vibe to these slouch jeans Halle wore while picking up her daughter Nahla at school.

Colored: Current/Elliott 'The Stiletto' Overdyed Stretch Jeans

7 / 10

$178, Nordstrom

I'm not really surprised to see this trend carrying into spring. The only difference between now and what we were seeing during the winter season is the level of intensity in the color. Rather than deep jewel tones like oxblood and emerald, we’re seeing a lot of pastel and vibrant neon and white—a lot of white.

Cuffed: 'The Boyfriend Jean' Stretch Jeans (Bleached Out Denim)

9 / 10

$206, Nordstrom

Gone are the days (at least for the next few months anyway) of having to hem every pair of jeans. It's so gratifying to be able to wear a pair of new jeans right away and to not have to hassle with hemming—just cuff 'em and be on your way!

Hilary's classic black sweater and patent red pumps dress up a pair of cuffed jeans, for a look that's just stylish enough for a night out on the town with hubby Mike Comrie.
