Spring Style: Contrast...

Spring Style: Contrast Collars

One of my favorite looks for Spring 2014 is contrast collars. Style bloggers like Mariann of Cashmere In Style and Blair of Atlantic-Pacific have been showing how to interpret the look--girly, edgy, ultra-trendy--you name it. The one thing they have in common? Layering, of course!

If you're feeling more traditional, wear a white collar with a dark sweater like Blair does (left). But if you're feeling bold, then by all means, start with a pop of color--or better yet, a print as seen on Mariann (right).

I tried contrast collars for the first time last fall and fell in love. I like to wear a dark shirt with a cropped, off-white knit sweater over a black chiffon blouse. (A neutral color like black or white is easy to style.) Because the sweater is cropped, it allows the collar and most of the blouse to show. Wearing a chiffon or cotton button-up will ensure you avoid looking bulky. Cropped sweaters are here to stay so invest in a few basic colors that can be worn over a variety of tops. I like to finish off the style with a bold necklace that ties everything together. This style is affordable and accessible thanks to stores like H&M and Zara, proving you don't have to spend a million to look like a million!

Emily Cholakian

I started my blog, Stiletto Beats, in 2010 as an assignment for my Fashion Journalism class and quickly fell in love. After years of blogging about fashion news and inspirations I decided to take it to the next level, incorporating my daily outfits and personal life. A little about me? Well, I love bunnies, eat way too much candy and love to write sappy quotes about life, love and surviving my quarter life crisis in Los Angeles. Stiletto Beats is my fashion diary dedicated to anyone who has experienced the happiness that comes from the perfect pair of shoes or the perfect song on a not-so-perfect day.
