Desk to Date: Ladylike Lace

Transitioning this delicate fabric from desk to date is simple with a few key elements that make it appropriate for work or play. Here's how to make lace work all day long.

One of the most feminine fabrics is lace. I love all of its ladylike qualities: It is light, intricate, and sexy, and it's the fabric of every feminine piece of clothing from wedding dresses to flouncy blouses. But can it perform in drastically different parts of your day planner? I say yes. Here's how I transitioned a white lace dress from work to play.

For work, I paired a lightweight, coral blazer--perfect for spring--with a contrasting statement necklace and thin gold belt. I love the tailored look of the blazer and belt for the office. It makes this dress more work appropriate and pulls in the gold of the necklace perfectly. Juxtaposing the delicate lace with a hard-working blazer makes the dress look more sophisticated. It also relaxes the mood of the blazer.

For the date look, I left the blazer behind (along with everything in my in-box!) and threw a leather jacket over my arm. I replaced the chunky statement necklace with a longer broach necklace and a bold lip. In both looks, I'm wearing strappy, colorful heels that relate to the blazer and jewelry without being matchy-matchy
