I don't want to slam this magazine as I enjoy it very much but this spread deeply disturbed me. I am an artist, educator and ocean activist and have worked tirelessly to combat plastic pollution.
If the artist/designer/photographer/magazine wanted to make an ironic statement about how damaging ocean plastic pollution is by being "permanent", "enduring", "immutable" then they failed. If there had simply been information about how damaging plastic pollution is to our oceans, lakes, streams, streets, parks, forests because of these qualities it would've made the pairing of luxury and trash more acceptable. Also, it would have been an excellent opportunity to educate the public about this world-wide epidemic.
