I have subscribed to More since it first began, but I find that in several areas I can no longer relate. I would like to see models that better reflect the average woman – women of all shapes and sizes. I also find that most of the clothes are way out of the price range of me and my friends. In the recent issue they were showing coats in the $400 to $700+ range. I like to keep up with the trends and am always told how well dressed I am, but there is no way I would pay $400 for a coat. Have articles on how to shop on a budget – high end resale stores, discount stores such as Stein Mart, etc.

I am from the St. Louis area so I am not familar with Stein Mart. People keep referring to it in regards to their clothing purchases. Is it like Target or more like T J Max?
Diane: There is (or at least was) a Stein Mart on Olive Blvd. in Creve Coeur, maybe a mile west of I-270 on the north side of the street in a plaza with Scnuck’s (or maybe Krogers). I think you’d like that store. :) |
The reason I subscribed to More several years ago was actually for the fashion. I wanted to dress more age appropriately and was looking for style suggestions. At that time they ran a lot of ads for Chicos and Coldwater Creek which I thought had nice and somewhat affordable clothing. I couldn’t justify paying the prices on the fashions shown now no matter how much money I make. I am happy to see Coldwater Creek advertising again in More. I do think More runs interesting articles so I will keep up my subscription. Love the travel articles. |

I actually am embarrassed by More Magazine. First it was HOW NOT TO ACT OLD. I have noticed that your magazine is very biased what with losers like Joy Behar and the article about Damascus with the definate left attitude.
I really liked Diane Keaton until I read the article about her....she definately has some MAN issues.
By the way...most women don't have $500 for a designer handbag so you need to tone down your style budget to meet the average woman's budget, please.
And try to get women with sound ideas not Kathy Griffith and Joy Beher...too embarrassing.
you know, different strokes for different folks….i adore both Joy and Kathy…talk about role modeling your passion—-neither one of these women had an easy road to success but they hung in there—-gees, Joy is in her 60’s!…. AND I definitley agree that more.com has a ’40’s’ focus and it could be cuz their editors’; are 40-something—-This will shift with age—-How i remember my editor at the OC Register refusing my pitches about ANY story related to baby & kids—-boring from her point of view cuz she had none at the time—-then she got some—-entire editorial stanted toward family life, et al, when she did….we gravitate to the familiar….all of us do, yes? |
You make some valid points, more realistic with a little bit of dreaming. |
I think that the fact that the editor is in her forties has made the theme generally, " Don’t we 40 year olds look wonderful?" Well, More Magazine, all of the war babies are 55 to 65. There are a bunch of us out here and we have a lot of money to spend so throw us a bone once in a while and make us think that we still can look good. We are not all trophy wives, so try showing some normal people modeling reasonably priced clothes, please. Please?? PK |
I’m in total agreement. It’s time for me to re-subscribe (plus gifts to my friends) and I don’t know if I should or not. I’m a young 60 but I don’t seem to find much about my age group. I have friends in their 70’s who would like to see more stories for their age groups as well. We are still young and do not want to be treated as though we don’t exist. |

It is a discount store more similar to TJ Maxx than Target – very nice name brand clothes, etc at a discount price. I have one right around the corner from my house and just love it – when they have sales you can get some really great deals. I also get some really nice clothes (Chico’s, Ann Taylor, etc) at some up scale resale shops also. |

Thank you Jean – you said it much better than I did. I totally agree with your comments regarding Joy Beher, etc. |
