Many banks try to lure you in with free cash, airline miles or college-savings bonuses. But the French lender Societe Generale is hoping to get women to sign up for its Pour Elle card by offering as much as $250 in handbag-theft insurance and two free uses of a locksmith, handyman or electrician service each year, Reuters reports.
Oh, and did we mention the card is pink and gold?
“Those who choose these cards are those who wish to adhere to their femininity,” a spokeswoman for the lender tells the news service. She adds that 5 percent of cardholders are guys.
But some women find the offer a bit sexist.
“It’s a little cheeky to promote both at the same time as ‘female crises’ that could arise,” Lys-Aelia Hart, 24, tells Reuters. “In my eyes, many men don’t know how to deal with a serious electrical issue. On the contrary, they’d probably get killed.”
Maybe they should join the 5 percent.
