The economy may be frighteningly down all around the world, but people—at least the ones who still have jobs—are resilient and, it turns out, positive and able to adapt at work. In fact, a new global survey from LinkedIn finds most professionals are happy in their jobs.

The professional network announced the findings today at the Texas Conference for Women, noting that of more than 12,000 surveyed, 63 percent say they’re “happy” or “very happy” with their current employment.

The happiest? Professionals in the Netherlands, where a whopping 80 percent are pleased with their job situations. The lowest? Japan, where just 31 percent are feeling the on-the-clock love.

In the United States, 66 percent are content with their work lives.

Even with pay freezes, benefit slashings, extra hours and less vacation time?

“A tough economy can make professionals appreciate facets of their job they might otherwise overlook when business is booming,” LinkedIn Connection Director Nicole Williams says in a statement. “Perhaps you didn’t get the raise you wanted this year, but you are appreciative of an amazing supportive manager who keeps an eye out for opportunities that will help you grow in your career.”

Ah, there it is: Gainful employment. In today’s economic climate, that’s enough to make us “very happy” too.
