Who knew, when the year started, that I would have the chutzpah to compete in a 5-mile, 29-obstacle run through mud by September? I was 44, feeling the creep of middle age, and not liking what I saw in the mirror.
Now I’m firm, can out run my teenager, and am ready to face the biggest challenge of my life. All I needed was a group of good friends and a terrific trainer to motivate me to succeed. As part of our training for this event, we’ve probably run up to 100 miles, done more than 1,000 push ups, squats, lunges, crunches, and those dreaded burpees (known as squat thrusts when we were young). But the work out we’ve given our mental status cannot compare. It’ll be mind over matter when we take to the mud in South Carolina next week for the ultimate girls getaway weekend.
