JCPenney Yanks ‘Too Pretty to Do Homework’ Girls’ Shirt off Site

Deemed sexist and offensive by many consumers, tee was marketed to girls ages seven to 16.

We’ve seen our fair share of truly stupid message T-shirts—everything from announcing yourself a coed-naked-volleyball player to offering reasons you most certainly should not mess with Texas. But this most recent example, aimed at girls ages seven to 16 and pulled from the JCPenney website yesterday after media reports began to break, just might take first prize as the worst of the worst.

The shirt reads “I’m too pretty to do homework so my brother has to do it for me.”

Yes, that was a collective gasp you just heard. Retire this one next to the Barbie doll that told girls, “Math class is tough. Party dresses are fun.

“We’ve immediately discontinued sales of that T-shirt. It was only online,” JCP spokeswoman Ann Marie Bishop tells ABCNews.com. “We agreed that the shirt does not deliver an appropriate message.”

Did JCP think the caption that accompanied its online photos of the $9.99 T-shirt did a better job? According to the news site, it read, “Who has time for homework when there’s a new Justin Bieber album out? She’ll love this tee that’s just as cute and sassy as she is.”

But here’s our favorite part of the story: The label for the T-shirt? Self Esteem.
