Study finds jogging an hour a week can add six years to your life

Normally, we run only when chased. And even then, it’s more of a canter. But a new study just might get us to lace up our sneakers for fitness.

MedPage Today reports Danish researchers say jogging an hour or more each week can add six years, on average, to your life. Hello, treadmill, our old friend.

“The results of our research allow us to definitively answer the question of whether jogging is good for your health,” Peter Schnohr, chief cardiologist of the Copenhagen City Heart Study, says in a statement appearing on the website. “We can say with certainty that regular jogging increases longevity. The good news is that you don’t actually need to do that much to reap the benefits.”

To make the most of it, the study shows, jogging two or three times a week for a total of one to two and a half hours at—hallelujah!—a slow to average pace is optimal, MedPage Today reports.

We wonder how long it would take to jog to the mall? We’ll need new running clothes, after all.
