Eat low carb. No, eat low fat. Eat like a caveman. Eat only raw food. Eat nothing but Subway. No, just do a juice fast. It’s enough to make us give up on dieting altogether.
But since we really do want to fit into our jeans this fall, we’re still paying attention to the latest news in weight loss. MyHealthDaily reports that a new study finds folks burn 350 more calories a day when they eat low carb than when they eat low fat.
“That’s an amount equal to one hour of moderate physical activity, without lifting a finger,” the study’s lead author, Dr. David S. Ludwig, tells the website. He adds, however, that the low-carb dieters experienced increased stress hormones and inflammation, which are “key heart disease risk factors.”
Cutting out that time on the elliptical sounds great and all, but nixing carbs just makes us angry. Here’s hoping the next study finds a steady diet of chocolate, cheese, bread and wine will make us thin. Where can we volunteer to be a subject?
