Here are a few tips to consider when dating online:
•Avoid sharing your real name, email address, place of work, address, phone number or other identifying information while you are emailing or chatting until you are completely comfortable.
•Trust your instincts and immediately stop communicating with anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable or apprehensive.
•If you decide to meet, always meet in a public place at a time when many people are around. Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you will return and set up a predetermined time to check in with them.
•If a person lies about their photo or profile then that is a red flag to no longer pursue the relationship.
•Beware of married people on dating sites. If the user is very secretive about their life or talks in hushed tones when you call them unexpectedly, move on.
•If a user claims to love you right away, be very cautious.
•If a user asks you for money for miscellaneous things (such as hospital bills, medication, a visa, etc.) you're getting scammed.
In conclusion, online dating can be fun and exciting, but be aware of some of the dangers. As a matchmaker, I've dealt with client's who've had some pretty scary experiences and have learned the hard way. Just trust your instincts, and you'll be fine.
