Gay Marriage Legal? Time to Get Hitched, Moms Say

Mothers are ready to hear "Here come the brides"—or grooms—as more states say "I do" to same-sex weddings.

Gay Americans have battled politicians, protesters and the courts in the fight to marry. But there’s one group they may not have factored in: their mothers.

The New York Times reports that with more states legalizing same-sex marriage, more moms are ready to see their sons and daughters walk down the aisle—and their kids might not be ready for it.

“I’ve been tracking it on our site’s chat boards,” Carley Roney, editor-in-chief of wedding website the Knot, tells the Times. “Now that more states are legalizing gay marriage, parents are saying, ‘Oh, good, so you told me this was serious and I’ve been supporting you, but now you can make it official.’ ”

Mothers tell the newspaper they’ve already got big plans for their children's nuptials—from wedding-dress styles to catering menus. Gay or straight, the message is clear: Don’t mess with a mother when it comes to planning her child’s wedding. Now, about the guest list ...
